What is done to solve the water problem in St. Criox, US Virgin Islands? |
Travel Info What's the cost of water from Puerto Rico? How often do the shortages occur? What are the emergency measures? Are cisterns used? Travel Tips i am from the VI and my mother is from St. Croix and as far as i know there are no water shortages. Yes cisterns are used and for place close to downtown they can get city water from the desalinization plant. The pipes have not been extended because it is to expensive. if you do not have city water and your cistern goes dry during a dry spell you can buy water. There are companies that sell truck they look like the gasoline truck of water and they will pump it into your cistern. I don't know how much it cost it has been awhile Others I have families in Puerto Rico. Their water bills cost half less of our Virgin Islands water bill. In Puerto Rico, water shortages happen so very often. In the Virgin Islands you don't see it much unless there is a hurricane coming, or pipe leakage. Meanwhile, every issue concerning water service is fine, except, the high cost. I don't know what measures there are in P.R. of Public water supply Services. But here,We use cistern dug on land, made of cement & block, and as base/floor to the house. When cistern dries out, we purchase water from trucking companies. Costs about $150-$200 / a tank of 4,000 gallons. -I hope I answered your question. Modified 1 year ago |
