Customs USVI? |
Travel Info I have a freind from Zimbabwe Africa, she wants to go to the USVI VIA Chicago. She has a student visa (USA) and is affraid she wont get readmitted to the US. Is this a valid concern? What details should we be aware of? Travel Tips Yes this is a very valid concern. I lived on St. Thomas, USVI for 19 years, orriginally from Canada. You must clear US Customs and Immigration at the St.Thomas airport before you are allowed to board the plane back to the US. They can be very nasty about non citizens, even with proper paperwork. (Green card is ok and no problem) ...The agents are mostly from the islands- St thomas, St Croix and St John, and could care less about your story. You may get back eventually to the US but it will cost you time and money for lawyers and courts plus the extra food and hotel costs. The local agents all have cousins who can profit by your staying on Island for a few days longer. Word! Others Well my first thought is that since the USVI is part of the United States, there's no "re-admittance" that she'd really have to worry about. However, any professional advice I'd give to a client in this situation is to call the local consulate and ask them directly. |
