ntroduction
The US Virgin Islands are a US Territory, consisting of a group of islands east of Puerto Rico, in the Caribbean. The 3 main islands are St Thomas, St John and St Croix.
Additional information
The US Virgin Islands, a territory of the United States of America, are located east of Puerto Rico, between the Caribbean sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. Tourism is the main economy for the islands, accounting for 80% of GDP. Petrol refining, textiles, electronics and pharmaceuticals complete the manufacturing sector. The agriculture sector is small, therefore, most food products are imported.

The U.S. Virgin Islands are St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John. St. John is mostly national park, at about 75%, including the only underwater national park.

The Virgin Islands as a whole were acquired from the Dutch in 1917 because of it's strategic importance to the Panama Canal. During the Dutch occupation, they were used primarily as a stopping off location and a primary port for the slave trade. Other industry included sugar cane and refinery. Interestingly, it was also a huge spot for commerce; the pirates in the Caribbean were allowed to sell their plunder on the streets of St. Thomas.

Currently, it's mostly a vacation spot. However since most of the land is taken up by the tourism industry, most of the food must be imported onto the island. Overall, it's a beautiful place, especially St. John.

If you're going to go, I'd go to St. John. While it does have some touristy spots, it's also the most unspoiled. And it has the best barbecue I've ever had, at Joe's on the dock.
