Do you need a passport to travel to the Virgin Islands? |
Travel Info Do you need a passport to travel to the Virgin Islands? Travel Tips Depends. The American Virgin Islands are a United States territory. If you are travelling to St. Thomas, St. John, or St. Croix you are not leaving the US, although having a passport for identification doesn't hurt. But if you are going to the British Virgin Islands I think you do need one, better check with your travel agent or hotel concierge. Others VIRGIN islands? lol Whenever traveling, it is always a good idea to carry one with you. Especially with airport security as tight as it is. I've actually gotten in trouble for this. If you are going to the USVI, in theory you don't. But if you have any plans to travel around the islands, I'd bring it. At the very least, you'll need it to get to the BVI, and if anything happens (God forbid) if you're there illegally, it's possible that you could be barred from entering the BVI for a time. It's generally better to travel with it, especially since it's the easliest way to verify your identity for government offices; many places don't know different state's driver's licenses, and travelling with a birth certificate can get dicey. Remember that most places will not accept copies of documents; you need the real thing. |
