Travel Info I'm planning a trip to st.thomas,vi does any one have any info on that location? Travel Tips I've been living here in st. thomas for three years. I would highly reccommend it as a great place for a visit. A few things: On St. Thomas, check out Magen's Bay, rated one of the top ten beaches in the world. If you like shopping, St. Thomas has some of the best duty-free shops in the caribbean, where each person can take back $1200 of goods, duty-free. Also, make sure you take a side trip for a day to St. John, a US Virgin Island. (a 15 minute ferry ride costs $10 RT from St. Thomas) St. John has some of the best snorkeling in the world, like Trunk Bay. And if you have time, check out some of the British Virgins (Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke) But make sure you carry a passport, as you must clear customs when making these trips, around $40-60 each. Or you could charter a boat and visit each island at your leisure. One thing about St. Thomas, If you are traveling with more than two people, rent a car. (if you can get used to driving on the left) Because taxis can get very expensive, as the rates are set by the government and are per person, each way. Its like night and day VS the US islands. go to virginn gorda or tortola if you can . Yeah, it was named after St. Thomas Aquinas, a Catholic saint and theologian. He's not buried there, so don't fall for the scam "See St. Thomas!" at the airport. I haven't been there in years, but one of the liquor stores downtown near the water has a 50 year old Spanish sherry that is wrapped in gold foil that is excellent. St. Thomas is one of the "most beautiful" islands in the Caribbeans. I have been there 3 times. Make sure to visit Megan's Bay Beach, it is awesome. You go "up" the island via Taxi (or car) and on the way you can look down and see the entire island. All the cruise ships, yachts, boats, etc. It is a very colorful island to take beautiful pictures. I have traveled to MOST of the Caribbean Islands..and St. Thomas is my favorite one! You will have a marvelous time! My most recent visit was in 2005. |
