I wanted to go from the cruise ship dock in Tortola to Virgin Gorda? |
Travel Info I am in Tortola from 7:00am to 2:00pm, I wanted to go to Virgin Gorda, the the tour with the cruise ship is $$$. Are there any other good companies around the dock area that can get us over there and back before 2:00pm? Also, is there alot of sandy beaches in Virgin Gorda? Is it very crowed in August. Travel Tips There is a ferry service called Smith's Ferry's that runs from the Waterfront at Red Hook, that does runs to Virgin Gorda. I am sending you a link to the BVI page that lists their phone number. You can also email them from the page. Just be really careful and do not cut your time too short to get back on the ship. The ship will leave regardless of weather or not all passengers have reported back. I ran into a couple on my last cruise that got into a situation where they missed the ship. It cost them a small fortune to be chartered by small plane to catch up with the ship on another island. Not to mention having to also pay for a hotel overnight on whatever island it was they were stranded on. Good luck and I hope you find a ferry that can accommodate your time slot. Enjoy your cruise! Source(s): http://www.bvitourism.com/inter---island... Other Travel Tips http://www.bvitourism.com/virgin-gorda... There are tons of ferries. The British Virgin Island Web site should give you a good idea of what to do. Phone one of the Ferry companies and ask for general info. They list a lot of them on the web site. just down the road from the airport is a water taxi, have them drop you off at the baths I lived on Tortola for 16 years. Its a wonderful place. Speedys has trips to Virgin Gorda. You can go to the 'Baths" the big rocks that you see in many photographs and commercials. Its going to be tough to go and get back in time, though. Why not just enjoy Tortola. What is it you want to do..and make I can help. Crowded in August....not really. Hot, YES! We went in april of 2006 when we went on a cruise. We took a ferry and a taxi. We were done at the beach by noon and back by 2pm. We went to the baths. which is giant boulders. A labrynth on paths and "caves". It looks as if giants stacked these boulders. Very interesting. The beach was small.and rocky. But that seems to be the place to visit. We did typical beach days at other islands. I have been on 5 cruises. That place was out ot the ordinary. I perfer sandy beaches. It is worth a look. Do a yahoo search for The Baths BVI |
