Starting January 2007, Passports will be required to REENTER the US from the Caribbean. However, the US territories of Puerto Rico and The US Virgin Islands are exempt from this requirement. When you return to the US from these places, all you need to show is your driver's liscence or birth certificate. Source(s): I lived there Other Travel Tips yes Starting Jan. 23, 2007 if traveling by air to the caribbean a passport is needed for about 97.00 dollars w/o picture per adult 16 years old and older and 87.00 dollars 15 years old and younger www.homelandsecurity.org there is a tremendous amount of mis-interpreted information out there, and Mrewak has it right........US citizens traveling to and from the US Virgin Islands DO NOT need a passport, any more than you would traveling from Boston to San Fransisco, because they are the UNITED STATES Virgin Islands........ now, that is as far as Immigration is concerned.........an individual airline MAY have a passport requirement, so check with them first and you WILL go through Customs on your way back to the mainland ( it's an involved explanation tied into why we are a duty free port and cigs are 16.00 a carton and bottle of rum 5 bucks........) but No, No Pasport Required have lived here ( St Thomas ) 30 plus years.
