In St Thomas - US Virgin Islands - do you drive on the right side of the road or the left? |
Travel Info I would think right, since it's still US, but I've heard rumor of otherwise. I am traveling there and thinking of getting a rental car, any suggestions? Travel Tips This is scary! How can someone get this one wrong and say it is the same as in the US. DRIVE ON THE LEFT ONLY! ok?? I have driven there numerous times and it is not very difficult to get used to. Steering wheels are on the left as in US cars. So, it is a little awkward at first. Just remain alert, watch your speed, Keep a good lookout (narrow roads with lots of hills and curves) and don't drive while drinking. Others The same as here (U.S.). I was married their. Its still the US. They drive on the right. All vehicles on St. Thomas drive on the left and most vehicles have the steering wheel on the left, as you are familiar with here in the States, not on the right as you might expect. All rental cars either at the airport or in Charlotte Amalie will be the same familiar drive configuration. Just remember to look to your right first. strange enough being a part of the us, they drive on the left They drive on the left. however, almost all cars have the steering wheel on the left side of the vehicle. It may seem weird at first, but you will get accustomed to it in a short time. They have a motto there "Keep your shoulder to the shoulder." Some historians say the origin of driving on the left comes from the 1920s-1930s when cars were first introduced to the islands. The farmers started to walk their mules on the left side of the road in order to prevent confusion. But that's exactly what it caused--confusion. Cars started following the mules on the left side of the road and the idea stuck. I lived there 2003-06 |
