Travel Tips Efficient public transportation Electricity that is never off No mosquities Freeways so that you can avoid traffic Four lane roads Well paved roads Businesses that stay open late 24 hour anything (7-11, groceries) Wal*Mart Shopping Malls & Variety Trains Snow Chain resturants (Olive Garden, Taco Bell, Quizno's) Speed limitis over 55 mph Amusement parks Being able to go on a road trip Changing seasons (fall, winterm spring) Source(s): VI born and raised Other Travel Tips Possibly snow. When I was there 2 years ago I would have loved to stay. It is a beautiful area. Actually,you'll still be IN the States. The Virgin Islands are a U.S. protectorate. Maybe the choices in shopping. You will find your regular products, but not as many options (ie. clothes, groceries). Aside from that, I can't imagine much aside from seasons. You're close enough to other islands, that you can take a short flight or ferry and see new places. Finding a job may be something else to consider. You'll be limited on where you can work or change jobs unless of course you own a business. I lived in Antigua for 18 months there is so much that will change in your life and much you will miss. Driving roads are narrow and not well cared for, say good bye to any sports car. Furniture with the moist tropic air most wood furniture just doesnt hold up. Your current pets if you have any will not adapt to the new climate. And it takes your body a long to time to adapt as well. i wont even get into Hurricane evacuation and the feeling as a woman to be packed into small rooms with complete strangers. they are dark half the time. Its a wild expierience but the advances you are sooooooo used to will be missed My list could go on and on and on For me thats an easy answer... Dunkin' Donuts! also take out food delivery, I miss being able to call up for some good Thai food, Bar-B-Que, or even a good pizza. Nobody delivers here. Getting friendly service, even the smallest tasks can become infuriating when faced with the long lines, and unfriendly help here. If there is one thing that drives me crazy, its uneducated arrogance. When all those "little" things start to add up, you find yourself inflicted with "Rock-Fever". This feels sort of like clausterphobia. Fortunately, this is easily remedied with a trip to the states. I find the direct flights to Boston, or New York help with this tremendously. Even a weekend "off-island" works. All in all, I am glad we made the move, I am sitting here at my desk, looking out the window at a dozen islands, and the gorgeous turqoise sea shimmering in the sun, ...85 degrees... Ahhh...life is good... "Lets all lift our Pina-Coladas and toast all those unfortunates living in upstate New York...Cheers!" |
