If you are live in or near (20 miles or less) D.C. answer this. . . .? |
Travel Info I'm thinking of moving either to the D.C. or going west and I just want to know from people who live there what's the best things you can think of about DC and what's the worst? Travel Tips DC had the highest paid females employees for 2006( research this) . PG county (5-20 minutes from DC) is the wealthiest african american county. It is very affluent, diverse, cultural and wonderful, there always something to do. Adams Morgan, Arlington, VA, Eastern Market on Sundays, Perry's drag queen brunch on sundays, the list goes on and on, DC is one of the few places nationwide that offers convicted felons employment with the government. I have friends who only have highschool diplomas that make 30k plus. My friend is in Florida attending Florida hospital college, and hates it! In Dc she made LOTS of dough, and in florida, with credentials shes having problems, come up north immediately!!! Source(s): Dc native baby Other Travel Tips Unless the job is much better in DC I would think Colorado or other Western states would be preferable--Best thing about DC are the jobs-- the worst is the traffic, summer heat, crowds, politicians, bureacrats--of course if you are into politics and history it is the place to be if you have a good job. Not the place for ski bums or free spirits!! I live in Arlington, VA. It's super close to the heart of DC. I can take the metro into work which is really easy and surprisingly clean. I just moved here and I am so happy with my decision to. There is so much culture here, there are people from all over the Country and even from all over the world. There is also so much to do here. You can eat a different country's food every night for a month if you wanted to. There are tons of museums and art galleries to visit. A lot of young people. If you like to go out at night, there is Adams Morgan, and Georgetown, both have many different bars and clubs. It's a great place to live and work. The only thing you might have to get used to is the expenses because they are going to be higher, but if you get a good job, your salary will be relative to your cost of living. I live and work in D.C. and there's a lot of things to do as the place is one of the many tourists attractions in the whole United States. During summer, you can either walk or jog in the park (The Mall) with the majestic Capitol Hill and the Lincoln Memorial as your view. All the museums too are free of charge. Driving & parking here in the city is a pain but you don't need to worry because the subway is very efficient and super clean. Also, DC is home to the most educated people in the United States (I got that from an article in Yahoo News mid-last year) mainly because most of the federal offices and foreign embassies are situated here. And with that, comes diversity. Mixed race, mixed cultures, ohhh...you just can't believe how diversed Washington, DC is. Also, according to an article published last week by Yahoo news, Washington, DC is number 1 when it comes to vigilance and preparedness should an (terrorists) attack occur (but of course, we hope it won't happen). DC is divided into quadrants: Northwest, Northeast, Southwest and Southeast. Crime rate in the Southeast area is typically high so you might want to be cautious when visiting this place. Also, like what your mother told you, avoid walking late at night or have someone with you if necessary. Cost of living might be quite shocking for you but if you budget well, which I am doing successfully, I'm sure you'll be fine. You will love this place. Goodluck. I just moved from Colorado. I loved Colorado. But currently I am in D.C. for a job. It depends where out west you want to go. I grew up in the Southwest. The best thing about back west, are the people. The people are friendly and nicer compared to the East coast. Oh,yes we have lovely weather! I love our weather back West. As I said, it depends where you go back West. I personally don't like CA. San Fran is nice. Seattle is nice. But love Colorado! I do like New Mexico (born & raised) but it depends on the type of person you are and what you are looking for. D.C. so far, there are some good things to do here. Weather is not great. People seem to be sucked up into work!! Don't smile much and aren't friendly... Back west, ppl don't seem to be such in a hurray... life is relaxed.. It seems as if life revolves around power and money here in D.C. But don't get me wrong there are some good ppl. I lived in East/West..need to know anything..let me know. I can give you pointers of both. I have lived in DC all my life and the best thing is the abounded jobs especially in your field. The government offers a lot of admin jobs paying good money! Also its the nations capital so there are a lot of sights to see such as the White House, Monument etc...Night life is good lots of clubs, restaurants and shops. The bad thing about DC is the ghetto a lot of tourist don't get to see or know that side of DC. Its full of crime and drugs. Property is very expensive here in DC also. |
