Travel Info Is this a safe neighborhood in which to stay for a week long visit to Washington, DC? Travel Tips It is not a good neighborhood to stay in for a visit to DC. The reason for that is you are not in the tourist part of town. It is largely Hispanic population there where the people speak very little English. Quite a bit of street crime right there, too. Muggings, drug dealing, and protitution are all in that area. Get a hotel downtown - the Hotel Washington is a good hotel which is not too pricey and in an excellent area. Others It's safe but there is a lot of construction going on around there now. It's still a neighborhood in transition. They are putting in a Target and more condos. You can get the Green line metro train right there at Columbia Heights and you can walk from there to Adams Morgan. I would say it's not the best location if you are coming with small kids but if you are single or in a couple and you like urban areas it will suit you. I live in DC |
