Travel Info I'm planning a trip to DC in April. Is it best to stay outside of DC and take the subway in? Travel Tips I went to DC for a short weekend in April of 2004. We actually stayed in Reston or Herndon, VA (sorry can't remember, they're so close). It was so much easier taking the subway into DC than driving. Didn't have to deal with traffic, finding parking, or paying for gas. Have a great trip! Others When I went to DC we stayed in Virginia and took the subway in everyday. It worked out good because we good sight see in DC or Virginia. The only bad thing was that it was a long ride. Definitely!!! I went a couple of years ago and it is much cheaper to stay outside of the city. If you want to be a little adventurous, check out the hostiles in the area, they can be fun. Also, check out www.dc.gov for some travel tips. Have fun!! It would certainly be cheaper. I would recommend staying somewhere in Virginia, and taking the Metro in. I've done that on several trips to DC and it always works pretty well. No! You'll waste too much time on the subway. If you'll be there over a weekend, you'll find hotel rates are usually cheaper than weekdays. Try the Hyatt on Capitol Hill. It's a nice hotel and the location is fine for walking to all the museums and monuments on the mall. Try the Franco- Springfield area south of the city in Fairfax on the blue line. whatever you like, but be aware that the metro (the name) isn't cheap. |
