Can anyone tell me about Olney, Maryland? |
Travel Info In April I will be moving to the DC Metro area and will be working in Brentwood. I have heard Olney Maryland is a nice place to live, but I don't know much about the area. So I am interested in any information anyone could provide me. Thank you. Travel Tips Olney is very nice. It is located at the intersection of Georgia Avenue (Rt. 97) and Rt. 108. A very nice subdivision is called Olney Mill with all types of homes. Olney is a short drive to the Shady Grove station of the Metro. You can park your car at Metro for $4 per day and take the Metro to Brentwood which is also on the Metro. It does not take 2 hours each way to commute like another posting said. Being in Montgomery County, there are good schools in the Olney area. You can also check out the community of Derwood for homes. That is just off of Muncaster Mill Road which goes right to Olney. Call any of the major realtors to send you information. You can also get information in the Saturday real estate section of the Washington Post for housing prices. They are not cheap and run around $450,000 and up for single family homes. I would hope you are going to take a house-hunting trip before you move so you know the area before you buy. Others I personally don't like it and I don't know why. I don't like the Olney,Damascus,Laytonsville area, it just doesn't feel right. I would suggest rethinking where you are going to live. Even if you liked Olney it would be a terrible commute. I would estimate maybe 2 hours each way. If you wanted to live closer you would probably choose Prince George's county. It is not a very good place to live, a lot of crime and schools are average. Either go over to Montgomery county or go farther out into PG county, maybe Laurel or Upper Marboro.(spelling) Olney has some nice houses, good place to raise families. However, it's really far from Washington D.C and I heard it's kind rural living. Its considered an exurb of D.C. I would try Rockville or Gaithersburg. Don't live in P.G county, rates of crime are rampant there. |
