Is it possible to walk from the Alrington Cementary to the Jefferson Memorial?

Travel Info
Is there a bridge, or would it be to far to walk?
Or is there another way than to take the metro?

Travel Tips
It is a good walk, but pleasant. I've done it a couple of times.

There is a bridge (Memorial Bridge) that goes right from Arlington Cemetery to the Lincoln Memorial. It's a very pretty walk. From the Lincoln, you just head over to the Jefferson, just down the way. You can pass the Korea, FDR and WWII memorials on your way to Jefferson too.

While it looks close, and you'll see your destinations all the way, when you are done, you'll probably have walked about 2 or 3 miles, which might be more than you want.

I should note that much of Arlington Cemetery is on a hill, so if you are exploring there, you will get tired. It is a good uphill hike to get to the Tomb of the Unknowns or some of the more famous areas (i.e. far from the Metro). And after that, heading to the Jefferson might be too much for you.

But, to be honest, you don't have much of an option, as the Jefferson Memorial is underserved by subways (nearest: Smithsonian). You can go from Arlington Cemetery to Smithsonian stops direct, but you loop through DC to do so.

There is a bus/shuttle that hits all the tourist stops. You can jump on that (about $20 or so) and jump off alll over DC. Might be worth considering if you want to see a lot of sights.

So, 3 mile walk or a cab or a Tourmobile. Good luck.

It would take a long time to walk..there is a bridge, but it would still be a good hike. I'd say take a cab.
It is most definitely possible to walk from the Arlington Cemetery to the Jefferson Memorial. You cross the Memorial bridge that is straight shot from Arlington Cemetery to the Lincoln Memorial. You then just walk along Independence Ave. toward the Jefferson Memorial and the Tidal Basin.

Depending on the weather its a great walk, especially as you cross over the Potomac Rive and on through the memorials. At the same time it is a bit of a hike, I believe a good 2+ miles. This could be quite miserable if the weather is bad.

As for other transportation options, the metro stops at Arlington Cemetery but you will have to traverse through all of downtown to get to Smithsonian, the closest stop to the Jefferson Memorial. The Metrobus does not go down Independence Ave., but it does traverse Constitution, which is on the other side of the National Mall. This might be an option. A third option is the Tourmobile. It has multiple stops around the monuments and is a flat fee. It also goes to Arlington Cemetery.

Good luck and enjoy your time in DC!

As long as you think of it as a hike rather than a short walk, it's very pleasant. You could also consider the tourmobiles, which whisk tourists to all the big attractions.
There is a bridge, but it's kind of far to walk. Just take a cab.
Absolutely. Tons of people walk, run and bike over that bridge. It's a beautiful and scenic walk. Have fun!!!
