Are there any parts of Alexandria, Virginia that you would recommend not moving to? |
Travel Info Im moving to the area and i am unfamilar with which parts of the city are safe/unsafe. Travel Tips I'd stay away from the Telegraph Road area; it's more run down and seedy. Everywhere else is pretty good. I used to live in an apartment in the Landmark Mall area. Others I'd say "Old Town" is the safest - - also the most expensive. As a generality, Alexandria is a nice town. Just do your homework, look around, how do the neighboring properties look? You can usually tell the better neighborhoods from the bad ones in that area just by looking at how well (or not) the neighbors take care of their properties. In many parts of Alexandria it's not uncommon to see a kinda run down apt complex a block away from a nice condo highrise because many of the old building have been bought and renovated and some have not so I have been in some neighborhoods that I thought were bad but really weren't, such as some places in Lincolnia. The southern end of Alexandria, around Woodlawn and Hybla Valley is a little sketchy. All in all, the area around Old Town is probably your best bet, lots of young professionals and public transportation, bars, restaurants, shops though it's pretty expensive. If you can afford Old Town Alexander, I'd move there. |
