Travel Tips
When I first moved to DC back in 2000 I was told there were no used book stores in the city and I was mortified! Thankfully, it was an absolute false statement. My favorite used bookstore is in Adams Morgan:

Idle Time Book Store
2410 18th St. , NW
Washington DC 20009
Phone: 202-232-4774
11 am to 10 pm or later, 7 days. Used Books.

I'm going to have to use the word "charming" to describe it because it is simply fabulous. I don't know the other used bookstores to which you are referring, but regardless, this one is worth checking out! Get a chai tea at Tryst and check out Idle Time right down the street, I can get lost in there for hours:) Source(s): http://www.dcnet.com/adamsmorgan/stores....

Other Travel Tips
I like this one bookstore in Dupont Circle on Conn. Ave. They sell new books as well but their selection is kinda esoteric. Plus, they have a restaurant which serves Apple Pie all night long.
I don't know if you only want something in the city, but there is a place in Rockville, Maryland that is quite large. It is called Second Story Books and it's where my mom bought this very unusual book that she used to have when we lived in Japan - they were the only place she could find it. It's on Parklawn and it's not far from the Metro if I remember right.

Oh wait...just found their website and they have one at Dupont Circle at 2000 P Street, but it's actually on the circle.

I agree with previous responder, Second Story Books is good
Second story books is actually excellent, They sell used cds and dvds too. Its on P st and 22nd st. almost front to dupont circle.

Theres another one too in Adams Morgan. Dont remember the name, but is on ur right side if you are going north. Between Tryst and the Mcdonalds on the corner.
