What are the BEST attractions in Washington, D.C.?

Travel Info
I'm taking my family this summer. We have three adults and two kids, 6, and 7. What can I not afford to miss?

Travel Tips
My kids enjoy all of the monuments and a lot of the museums.

You can get tickets in advance to go up in the Washington Monument at the National Park Service web site. There is a small transaction fee, I think $1.50, but it is well worth it. You can see the whole city from up there.

Kids always like the Air and Space Museum and the Natural History Museum. To my surprise, my kids liked the sculpture garden by the Natural History Museum and the Botanical Garden up by the Capital Building.

The National Aquarium and Zoo are good too. The aquarium charges a small fee, but I believe the zoo is still free.

My kids love feeding the ducks and squirrels, having a picnic on the mall lawn and getting ice cream from the street vendors.

The Metro is a great way to get around since things are spread out. Bikes are also a good idea if you plan to drive and park down town or you can rent them. A boat ride on the Potomac river is always fun too. Be sure everyone wears good walking shoes. It is easy to walk five to 10 miles in a day and not even realize it.

there are alot of great places to go. dont be the normal DC tourist and only hit up the monument and stuff, be more cultural. visit, mount pleasant,a nd the columbia heights area, and visit the hispanic culture, eat some greta food, and even hear a little music. def. go down to the warf and see the water , and purchase some of the best seafood you'll ever eat. visit Hainespoint, and look out at the water and sit eat, and do wutever you feel. DC has too much to offer so make more than one trip. lol i hope i have helped. lol
possibly consider the International Spy Museum. i think its something that kids as well as adults would enjoy, although i dont have any kids myself.

for a museum its a lot of fun

enjoy your trip, and here's their site if you want to take a look at what the museum has

The Old Post Office and the Ronald Reagan Bldg. Don't forget to check out the Vietnam Memorial (bring a hankie), WWII memorial, and Botanical Gardens.

If you like shopping check out Georgetown and the Shoppes on Penn Avenue. Oh and visit Union Station, it has wonderful shops and exhibits. Watch out for the homeless people though.

We have pedal boats along the Potomac if weather permits that is fun too. And if you are here in July, there is the Folklife Festival on the Mall. Usually hot and humid whew!
