Your best bet is to take Amtrak - you need to take a train from Portland to Boston's North Station. Take a taxi to Boston's South Station and continue on to DC. http://www.amtrak.com will make the arrangements. If you have a college discount card, I believe Amtrak's website can handle it. Simply return the same way. Have a nice trip. Others Wasington DC is a pit. Why on Gods green earth would you want to go there? I've been there once.......ONCE. Ok, I went to college in Farmington Maine and I am from Maryland. I drove alot but I can't say that this is the cheapest way. You might not like this answer but this is the cheapest. I would drive to Manchester NH take South West to BWI and then rent a car while you are there. However due to the time that you have left. The Cheapest way is to drive. It will be a good 10-12 hr drive but it is the Cheapest. To avoid most tolls you should take (this will keep you out of Jersey) 295 (if you aren't in south Portland) 95 South 495 around Boston 90 84 81 83 and that will get you to md...once you get there the best way is to take 95 from Baltimore into DC The next cheapest way to get there is to take Greyhound. However, this cost more than driving and takes more time. Amtrack is not that cheap and you would be better to fly from either Portland to Philly with JetBlue or Manchester NH to BWI with Southwest and just rent a car when you get there. |
