I'm going to the Preakness in Pimlico MD , by Baltimore. Looking for Hotel.?

Travel Info
Friday night we would like to go out in Baltimore and Saturday night to the race. Looking for a decent affordable place to stay, will be about 10 guys.

Travel Tips
There are alot of great hotels in the inner harbor area, which is close to most of Baltimore's nightlife, but if you are looking for a hotel close to Pimlico, I'd recommend either the Inn at Colonnade or the Radisson at Cross Keys. Both of them are pretty nice and offer rooms in the $125/nt. range.

Others
It might be best to get a hotel downtown, but close to I-83. I-83 will take you straight to the preakness race track. But being dowmntown (near the Harbor) is much nicer and safer then any hotels ( if there were any) in that area. If you are not looking to be in the thick of the city, try going further up Reiserstown Road, past Old Court, which is the Pikevile area. It is part of the county and is also no far from Pimlico Race Track and I-83. This would probably be cheaper and quieter than staying downtown.
I was rasied in Baltimore, and still live here now. My friends live near the race track. It is a bad area and if you know people or places around there, you will have a good time at the event anyway. :) Have Fun!
I'd look for some budget friendly chain hotels in the Towson area. It's a little bit of extra driving, but at least you have a good combo of location, safety, and value.

There are lots of premium hotels in the Harbor, but look for rates to be SKY-HIGH.

Whatever you do, book soon. Preakness weekend is obviously a big weekend for tourism, so rooms anywhere in town are most likely at a premium.

Other areas to look at, White Marsh, probably 20-30 min from downtown and Pimlico. BWI area (also about 20-30 mins away) lots of hotels.
The neighborhood around Pimlico will be having tents set up in there yards for camping. This was voted the safest place to camp in America. You can walk to the track without fear of being mugged. Plus the rats don't bite.
