Travel Info MY SON AND I ARE MOVING TO D.C BUT I WANTED TO KNOW IF 16HR IS TO LITTLE TO LIVE OFF OF. NO MATTER WHAT I'M STILL MAKING MY MOVE, ALSO WHERE CAN I FIND A GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD TO LIVE IN NW, NE, COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, BROOKLAND ARE THESE PLACES GOOD Travel Tips Something important to remember is the school system since you have a son. It's going to be rough finding a place thats decent in a good neighborhood that has non-scary schools attached. That said you should have some luck in the following places. In Upper NW DC, there's an area called Glover Park. It's north of Georgetown in a really nice wooded park-like setting. Rents here are lower than surrounding areas because it's considered remote since there's not a Metro stop nearby. However, you can a hop any of a number of very frequent buses in the area, that'll have you to a Metro stop in minutes. The D2 bus has you at Dupont Circle in about 10-15 minutes. The upside is that it is quite safe, a nice place, it's quiet at night and the schools around it are pretty good. Park Crest is advertising a 700 square foot One Bedroom apartment for $1180 and a $99 Security Deposit. At $16 an hour you should be okay with that rent, less than 2 weeks salary. Good luck! Maybe 16 thousand? Do you mean the move will take you 16 hours and you want to know it that's too much time to spend of the road? You will have to explain what this phrase means before anyone could possibly answer this question. Ok dude, I get what you are asking. 16 dollars per hour is an average wage here in Washington. Yes you will be able to make it off of that. Granted you will not be making the money most of DC's famous movers and shakers make, but you will be okay. Remember DC has like 100,000 college students and they survive off of alot less. Anywhere in NW/NE DC is the best place to live in the District(in my opinion). SE/SW are a little bit rough neighborhood speaking wise. Crime is a little higher down there. I live in China Town and I am perfectly happy here. Columbia Heights would be my first choice to live over Brookland. Both have a Metro stop though. SE/SW is alot cheaper, but you remember the old saying " You get what you pay for".
