We're flying from So. Cal. to DC, then driving to small town Virginia. Which DC airport might be best? |
Travel Info I don't know where each DC airport is located relative to the area of VA we want to drive to. Travel Tips Roanoke (ROA) is 57 miles south east of Covington. (Appx. 1 hour 19 minutes drive) I will list the links to maps driving directions, distance and travel time from several nearby airports. Roanoke is closest, then Lynchburg(LYH), Richmond(RIC), Dulles(IAD), Reagan(DCA). Dulles and Reagan are often cheaper, and the drive south is beautiful. Check for lowest fares on Orbitz.com or Expedia, then buy the ticket directly from the airline's website to avoid ticketing and reissue fees. Wasington Reagan to Covington http://maps.yahoo.com/index.php#mvt=m&q2... Other Travel Tips In DC there are two airports, there is the Reagan National, as well as Dulles... I've flown into Reagan (DCA) from LAX, and its pretty good because the metro subway passes right by it, and takes me to Union Station. As for IAD, theres not much I can say about that, I just know that I cant take the subway towards Union Station to come to Baltimore. And, I believe that DCA is also pretty south in DC, closer to VA... Good luck I work in the travel industry. Dulles would be cheaper and easier to fly into. Dulles is actually in Virginia so I'm guessing it's going to be the closest to wherever you are going. Good luck and have fun! Dulles would probably be better but without knowing where in VA you are going, I can't really be sure. Dulles is probably the most convenient major airport. There are several nonstop flights from LAX. If you can fly into Roanoke, VA - Covington is less than an hour away. Otherwise, you're about a 4 hour drive from Dulles and the other 2 DC area airports are an hour further. Roanoke is a decent sized airport but I'm not sure if there are direct flights from So. Cal. Most of Roanoke's flights come from Dulles, Charlotte or Atlanta. If you have the luxury of taking an extra flight from Dulles - go to Roanoke and rent a car from there. |
