My sister, mom and I are taking my nephews (10 and 13) to Washington, DC. What do you think we should do while

Travel Info
we are there? I've been to DC many times but not sure what they would like most. We are thinking of the spy museum, air and space... of course capitol and library of congress, national archives, monuments.. but is there anything that specifically sticks out in your mind?

Travel Tips
Spy Museum, Archives, Postal Museum (over near Union Station) National Building Museum (near Judiciary Square) a walk along the Mall (don't forget to check out Einstein across the street) a trip up to the top of the Old Post Office Pavilion (if you can still do this-I haven't in years) the Library of Congress, the Mint, the Holocaust museum.

Others
Walk the mall. There is plenty to see and plenty that is free. Maybe even bring a small bag with some throw around stuff so you can sit in the mall picnic-style. If you go to the information booth just East of the Washington Monument early in the morning, you can also get the tickets for the ticket-requiring monuments (like the Washington Monument) pretty easily. Also, if they seem disinterested, you can always leave and go on to the next place and not feel like you wasted an admission fee.
Personal Experience
Everything you mentioned is a good idea. I'm sure they would love the Air and Space museum. The IMAX theater there is great as well, so if anything good is playing when you happen to be there then check it out for sure. The National Archives is also one of my favorites. But any of the things you mentioned is definitely worthwhile.

Also if you're interested check out the National Zoo. As with most of the tourist destinations in DC, it's completely free and it's regarded as one of the top zoos in the country. The pandas are their "signature" exhibit but it's really a great zoo overall. Also as the person who answered before me said, the Washington Monument is always cool. And just walking around the Mall and people watching is fun.

Unfortunately the American History museum is closed for renovations I believe until sometime in 2008, but that's another favorite.

Also a good website is the Smithsonian's website - www.si.edu. They have good information on temporary exhibits and stuff, and lots of other good information.
I'm from the DC area originally.
I think you guys should go the musuem and to the zoo. Walk the malls.
