Do you need a passport to travel to Washington DC?

(I live in California) I know in 2008 you need one to go to Canada and Mexico, I am just wondering about DC. Also a crazy old man told me you will even need one to travel INSIDE the states! Is this true?!

You should always travel with a valid ID, inside your own country and it is a MUST to cross a border.

As for needing a "Passport" to go to Washington DC .... I have never heard of that. Unless of course you are not a US Citizen. Then you have to have a passport to fly within the States. Perhaps this crazy old man simply said that because he knew a passport was a valid form of identification.

Try reading through the website below for more information. There are other reasons for having valid ID such as a passport or other photo ID.

Nope!!thatas crazy...i fly all the time.Never needed one.I live in Germany where my husband is stationed so we are always going home to the states,and we never needed our passports anywhere in the states.canada and mexico yeah thats different.
Last time I checked Washington DC was still in the US ! And at this time, you / we don't need a passport to travel out of state. You only need a passport if you go outside the country. Like Japan, Russia,.......
No, passports are only required for international travel.

Despite what many believe, both California and Washington DC really are parts of the USA. You do not need a passport to travel within the USA ("domestic travel").

However, you do need government-issued ID to fly within the USA.
DC is obviously a part of the US so you don't need a passport. You also don't need one going to other states. The only reason why I would ever think you would need a passport in DC is if you were going to a high-security place that most people would never go to....
