Travel Info Where can I see great foreign and independent films in the Washington, DC area? Travel Tips Try the Embassies. The French Embassy regularly shows films at their La Maison Francaise, and when the D.C. Environmental Film Festival was going on, a lot of Embassies were hosting showings (the ones that come to mind are Switzerland, Sweden, Australia, etc.) Source(s): experience Other Travel Tips AAAAaaarghh! I remember when there used to be like five theatres in G'town alone. I used to work at The Key Theatre. Does anyone out there remember The Biograph (it's now a CVS)?! Try Visions in DuPont Circle, if it's still open. Or Netflix dvd's in the mail thanks for the memories! Absolutely agree with Just_Treva - a lot has been lost (I remember the Biograph). That said, I still often go to the Shirlington Cineplex in Shirlington (Arlington). You can get a great meal at one of the funky restaurants, then go see a movie. Most are foreign or independent, and there's a lot of parking. There is also the E Street Cinema (no parking, but you can take metro then walk), and the Bethesda Row Theater (has stadium seating, not far from metro). By the way, did you catch the annual DC Independent Film Festival at UDC this past month? They also have year-round events, so you can monitor the web site: http://www.dciff.org/ AFI in Silver Spring. It's metro accessible too. http://www.afi.com/silver/new/ |
