Hi I'm actually answering your other q about a man from tain in the highlands with the geordie accent. He is a geordie, I know him well, tall fella friendly, dark hair won't say his name on here but there's your answer, he is indeed from newcastle Source(s): tain is a very small place

I live just outside of DC, and around here, people really don't have an accent. There's no southern drawl or northern New Yorkish accent. It's just plain. Perhaps to me, it's plain just because I hear it all the time, but there really is no twang or drawl on it. It's just English as plain as it gets basically. I have no idea what influenced it though. Maybe it's because we're in-between. There's the New York accent to the north and the southern accent to the south, and us being in the middle are just neutral.
I'm from Baltimore maryland about a 45 min. drive from washington d.c. but now I live in virginia beach, virginia and I onced live in new york and ohio and the more down south that you move the more country people talk.
I don't think there's much of an accent around here. I've lived in many different states but spent 9 years in Ohio. I came out here to the D.C. area and didn't notice an accent, but the funny thing was that I've visited Ohio (southwestern) several times since moving and I actually notice that *they* have accents! Not like Texas or Tennessee accents, but I can definitely tell when I hadn't before.

I spend a lot of time in D.C. and some of my friends here are D.C. natives and I've never thought they had accents. It depends mostly on upbringing or native language or culture, not neccessarily the area.

However, you can go 50 miles south in Virginia and certainly hear an accent with a good portion of the population there.
There is no accent in D.C.

That's because hardly anyone that lives there is actually from there.
I had asked a question like this recently and many people also stated there isn't much of an accent in DC. However, if you speak to the older generation in the area, their accent sounds very southern, especially on the Virginia side. I had talked to a couple elderly people from that area and I was shocked to hear that they grew up in the area. The accent is somewhat mainstream, but I've heard a couple differences here and there. It's not the type of accent you could tell right off the bat where it's from. Also, in the DC area people move in out so fast there aren't many people who have lived in the area for a long time.
