Are there a lot of brown recluse spiders in Jamestown (near washington d.c.)? |
Travel Info I'm going 2 washington d.c. next week and one of the places i'm visiting is Jamestown. Someone told me that brown recluse spiders are very common there and people have gotten them in their hair. i'm deathly afraid of spiders let alone poisonous ones so i was wondering if there really were spiders there. Travel Tips I live about an hour from Jamestown. You will not have a problem with spiders while you are visiting. I've lived here all my life, and have yet to be bit by one. Have a fun trip! Others I think that they are fairly common in most wooded areas in the US, I however wouldn't really worry too much about them as I have lived in that region for a long time growing up and never had a run in with one. I know that I have seen black widows there in the barn, but once again, it never bit me, nor came near me. Personally, I would just have a good time, enjoy that beautiful area that is in its 400 year anniversary and don't give the spiders a second thought. They really do not want anything to do with you :) Well to start Jamestown is about 2 hours south of DC in Virginia, so it's not exactly near DC. And to answer your question, most places in the world have spiders. Virginia doesn't have any more or less than any place else. Besides, Jamestown is a city, not a backwoods place. The brown recluse spider is one of two spiders in the Eastern US that is very dangerous to humans. The other is the black widow. Both are found in the Jamestown area. The spiders are mainly found in untidy places like garage corners or in woodpiles. The brown recluse spider venom causes the tissue to dissolve. It leaves terrible open wounds that must be closed with skin grafts. The black widow spider venom will not kill a healthy adult but will cause terrible abdominal cramps that will leave a person doubled over with pain for up to 3 days. If you do not go poking around in dark corners of buildings or poking around in woodpiles, you will not even see a spider. They will be around - but you will not see them. Have a good time. There is no Jamestown near Washington. Perhaps you mean Jamestown Virginia, where the Queen will visit early in May? |
