I made one out of balsa wood years ago. Ended up cutting up tons onf squares of wood and stacking them. Don't recomend that way. Easier to simply cut the sides from balsa wood (or cardboard) and glue them together. Same with the pyramid top.

1 buy materials (cardboard or balsa wood, exacto knife, hot glue gun, paint).

2. Look up measurements of Washington monument, ought to be somewhere on the net

3. make template of sides and top of monument

4. trace onto material and then cut

5. glue together

6 paint

OH my flippin gosh!! I did this. But crazy thing about was. We had to do it with a bar of soap. A very thick piece of soap. I wanna say it was dial(white bar), we used pins to trace out the image first, then phillips flat head to carve it out. It was hard work but i actually finished in one day and it was sooo cool. This may not be the best materials for you but it worked for me.
