Does anyone know how the traffic in on 495N (Virginia) going to 270 toward Rockville?

Travel Info
I live in Virginia (Annandale) and must commute to Rockville, MD. How is the traffic around 9:30 A.M. going to Maryland and 6:30 P.M. back to Virginia?

Travel Tips
Pretty awful actually.

you'll be in traffic from ur home up to I 66 and then it should be fine the rest of the way in the morning.

In the evening, it's bad through virginia down through Tysons Corner and clears up after your exit.
I 270, you'll be on the other side of traffic though so it won't be so bad on 270.
Others
In the morning, you are actually going against traffic so it's not horribly bad. You might have more traffic on 495 than anything else, but once you're on 270, it's easy.

However, in the evening, it might be pretty tough because 495 in the evenings is much worse.
Wow. Miserable. You'll probably hit traffic on the way home from at least 270 to Tysons, sometimes farther.

While not that far, this is really hitting two or three 'ouch' points--the Legion, Tysons, and 270. A wreck at any one of the three will make things miserable, and I think on any given week (10 trips over these 3 areas) your chances of hitting at least one major messup is about 75% or so.

I really don't think there are any realistic public transit alternatives. Just to get to the Red Line upto Rockville would be almost as much of a pain. Buese around the beltway are subject to the same problems.

Hate to say it, but have you thought of moving?
I'd say traffic is moderate at those times of day. The heaviest traffic is actually going the opposite way, because of the huge number of jobs in Tysons and Reston.
TERRIBLE especially around the spurr...good luck
Naturally, rush hour is the worst time to get on 495 and 270. The drive time will be at least 1 hour each way in heavy traffic. Since you live in Annandale, why not take a couple of experimental drives to where your job in Rockville will be and drive during those hours to determine if the drive is worth the job?
Well, if your job in Rockville is close to Metro and/or public transit - taking Metro may save you time and stress compared to driving on I-495.

If I remember, Annandale is close to the West Falls Church Metro Station. Take Metro's Orange Line to Metrocenter and transfer to the Red Line heading to Shady Grove. From Metrocenter to Rockville station is a 30-35 minute trip and from West Falls Church to Metrocenter is maybe 20-25 minutes for a total trip time of about 1 hour.
