Travel Info
What is the best reasonably priced hotel near to the Smithsonian or the Metro and are there any tour companies that specialize in the Smithsonian. My Wife is disabled and always wanted to go... She will need to get an electric scooter or wheel chair to go. any ideas... Thanks

Travel Tips
a common misconception is that the Smithsonian is one museum, it's like 7 or eight, most of them are on Independence, or across the mall on Constitusion. As far as scooters , I have no idea. Why don't you rent one before you get there. Perhaps a travel agent can help you.
There are several bus tours that all begin at Union station and all are handicap acssesible. Plus you can get on and off all day long as you please up untill 4pm. ( All tour buses are stopped at rush hour. There is a nice nite tour that starts at 7pm)
as far as cheap hotels, if either house is in session( untill June )then there r no hotels that r cheap in the federal Triangle period! having said that, check hotel.com or hotwire.com u might get lucky. You'll want to find a hotel on the Hill as thats close to Union Station and thats the transportation hub in the city. I personnally have stayed at, holiday inn on the hill,( ok nothing fancy, clean and comfortable beds) and across from that at the Hyatt on the Hill. you'd prob. like the holiday Inn better. we do. theres another two or three in that area. Check guide book , look near the Capitol , then look on New Jersey and Lousianna and the blks around there.where they intersect. Hope I helped a little Source(s): LOVE DC!!!!
Other Travel Tips
Any place near the Metro will work. Try Arlington or downtown. You can look up the Metro station addresses at www.wmata.com. There are elevators, but watch out, they are sometimes broken or shut down to be fixed.

Once you're downtown, you're probably better off just walking/scootering up and down the Mall to the museums and sites than trying to get on and off a tour bus. They're all close together and easy to get to and find.

To see sites around the city, you could take one of the tour buses that stop in the Mall area. That would make sense for your wife. This is a cool one - it's an amphibious vehicle that drives around on land, then goes straight into the water for a river tour:

You should check with them in advance about accomodating your wife.
