Travelling to Alexandria from Wash DC?

Travel Info
Is it easy to use the metro to get to Alexandria? Would we need to take a bus or car from the Metro station or does the Metro extend out that far? Also, is Alexandria worth a visit? Thanks!

Travel Tips
Alexandria, espcially Old Towne, is definately worth the visit. The metro runs right there the Yellow and Blue lines stop at King Street and you can just hop off and hit all of the neat shops, places to eat, and the potomac river at the end of the street. There you can also take walking tours of Old Towne (stop at the Visitor's center on King St.) and this will get you into the historic buildings. Also, in Alexandria is Mount Vernon, George Washington's estate (it costs about $13 for admission). Alexandria has a lovely charm and is definately worth the visit.

you mean alex VA??? honey, that is only like 20 mins on the train...not a big trip. I do it everyday!
There's some fun stuff to do in Alexandria, and the metro runs straight through. There are also taxi's at every stop that you can use to get wherever!!
The metro will get you pretty far out in all directions in Virgina and Maryland and all over DC. Go to www.wmata.com (Washington Metro Area Transit Auth.) It has maps and fares. If you go to Alexandria, you should go to Old Town Alexandria. You can take the train to the KING STREET station and you're there. Old Town has a great waterfront, lots of bars, shopping and cool places to eat. It's a nice day trip and easy to get around by foot. Go to http://www.ci.alexandria.va.us/... and click on Recreation and Tourism. Have Fun.
I lived in Alexandria for two years, wish I could go back. The metro runs all over through northern VA and you can take a cab or walk anywhere the metro doesn't go. Make sure you check out Old Towne, it's a great place to see. Also, pop up to Arlington along the river and check out Crystal City, the Pentagon, and the National Cemetary, it's only about five minutes away.
It's easy. Take the yellow line straight there. The station is on the western end of Old Town Alexandria. It's worth a day trip - go east toward the river, 16 blocks - the most interesting stuff is there.
