How safe is this DC location? |
Travel Info I am a 20 year old female who is looking for DC housing. I found a reasonably-priced place near Rock Creek Golf Course (east of it, like right across the street) - Sheridan Street NW at 16th Street. Is this a safe area? Thanks for your help in advance! Travel Tips I live about 2 miles south of there and feel very safe where I am. For the most part, the entire 16th Street NW area is very good, lots of churches, nice homes, and schools. Just to the east of you, towards 14th Street and Georgia Avenue things get a little dicier, but it is still not an extremely dangerous or scary place. I am a 27 year old female and I'd never lived in a city until I moved here last year. I found this area to be surprisingly nice and easy to get around. Rock Creek Park is a wonderful place to take walks or just get out and enjoy the sun. My fiance and I spend a lot of time out there and we've never felt unsafe or witnessed any activities like the other gentleman mentioned. If you have a car you will have easy access to groceries in Silver Spring, on Georgia Avenue or over on Connecticut Avenue. The 16th Street (S line) busses are also wonderful for getting you downtown. All in all, I'd say anywhere in DC you need to be aware of your surroundings and take the typical steps to ensure your safety, but this area is one of the safest you'll find for the price and location. Source(s): I live here. Other Travel Tips When I lived there in 1992-94, NW was the safest area of DC to live in. Rock Creek Park is beautiful, but beware: The park at P Street Beach is host to many office workers who use the extensive lawn along P Street Beach (two blocks off DuPont Circle) to sunbathe nude during lunch hour, as well as people who like to have sex in the bushes. It's pretty discreet; and you'd probably never see the sex happening. Fair amount of drug dealing on DuPont Circle itself. Mostly marijuana when I was there, but nowadays there could be crystal meth, too. Still, DC is a pretty awesome city. It's as safe as you make it! Don't take chances with your safety. Be aware of your surroundings. Use the general female safety rules. Nobody is going to watch out for you but you. And you shouldn't wait for someone else to tell you how to protect yourself!! Yes, that's pretty safe. To me it seems like a good location, it's close to Silver Spring which is nice. NW DC is usually safe. If you're looking for the safest Georgetown would be it, but I don't think you'll have any problems. Cheers. |
