Travel Info where would be the place places to take my 11 year old son. on his first trip to washington D.C. Travel Tips The Smithsonian museums are so fun. I think he would really enjoy the museum of Natural history and the American history museum. Also the white house and congress are always interesting to go see. DC is fun... if you just walk around and look at everything you really couldnt go wrong. I would be cautious about the Holocaust museum. It is an amazing experience and should be seen at some point, but there are some VERY graphic images and videos there and you would want him to understand the significance of that... not that its just a gross movie to watch. Others You have to hit up the Smithsonians! Natural History Air and Space. The Holocause museum is wonderful! Go to the Science and Space Museum! Washington, Jefferson & Lincoln Monuments. Viet Nam War Memorial might be kinda boring for an 11yo, but you could put it in context with the current war in Iraq. White House & US Capitol. There is a sculpture called The Awakening that I found fascinating when I was a kid. Constitution Avenue, Georgetown, the National Mall, and the monuments. (You might want to search online for tickets for monuments/museums, etc., because the tend to be sold out sometimes which is no good.) The National Zoo. It's free. It's got pandas! |
