How far is the pentagon from the white house? |
Travel Info i'm writing a book and part of the story line is a journey from the pentagon to the white house and back on foot. can anyone tell me roughly how far apart they are from each other? Travel Tips They are 3.4 miles a part. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&sa... Others down the road a peace. it's about 5 km. cutting across the roosevelt bridge, on foot, it would take about an hour to walk from the pentagon to the white house. former D.C. resident It's deceptive, because you can see the two from each other, but to walk between them requires crossing a few major Interstates and going out of your way. Basically, they would walk over to the bicycle paths that run along the Potomac. They could go more direct over the 14th Street Bridge, or more scenic up to the entrance to Arlington Cemetery and then over the Memorial Bridge to the Lincoln Memorial, past the Vietnam wall and WW2 memorial, within site of the Wash Monument and then to the White House. It is a hike though...Quite a hike through some difficult roads. If someone in your story was pondering something, they would more than likely walk from the Pentagon to Arlington Cemetery, or over to the Monuments (Jefferson or Lincoln). From Jefferson you can look across the Tidal Basin and see the White House. Good luck. A sane person would take Metro's Blue Line during normal business hours which are until 3 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. Plus, I doubt that a person could walk freely from the White House to the Pentagon once that person reached Pentagon soil because of the security presence around the perimeter of the Pentagon. |
