Where are the family oriented communities around the Washington D.C. area? Is it safe? |
Travel Info Is it growing? Travel Tips I'll assume that you mean to visit, not to live, though the answers are the same. The truth is that the vast majority of the communities in the DC area are family oriented. Fairfax County in Virginia, and Montgomery County in Maryland have among the best schools in the nation and huge numbers of things to do with kids. DC itself has tons of parks and attractions for children. DC is basically safe. There are a few places where there are some drug issues and some gang violence - this has spread out some in the last couple of decades, so that Maryland and Virginia have more of the problem than they used to and DC has less. Still these places are overhwelmingly safe. Like any tourist city, any city really, there are poor people, and there are people who will prey on tourists because they are more vulnerable. A visitor should be careful in any city in the world, not just DC. I live in Vienna, VA, which is a suburb with a real community feeling that I like, but there are many DC communities that have the same kind of feel; Falls Church, VA, Annandale VA if you are Korean or Latino, Tacoma Park, MD - many others. We are quite rich in family oriented communities, and it is definitely growing! |
