Is Capitol Hill a real hill? |
Travel Info I know this is a ridiculous question, but is there really a hill at Capitol Hill? I've never been to DC... and on the news and Court TV they just show fake backdrops of the Capitol building. Thanks. Travel Tips The US Capitol, when looked at from the West front, is in fact located on top of a small hill with a huge gated lawn in front of it. The back (or the front from how you look at it), is the side with the short staircase that you always see on T.V. Hope that answers your question! Other Travel Tips Yes - Capitol Hill is a hill yes it's a small hill - not really that big but it's a hill, haha Put it another way - the East/West streets next to the Capital do climb hills although the land is flatter on the South and East sides vs. the North and West sides. Yes it is on a Hill, and planned that way. When Pierre L'Enfant designed Washington, DC in the late 18th century, he said that the hill was a "fit pedestal" for the Capitol Building. You climb many steps to get to the building - that's the hill! |
