Travel Tips theres the major highway system that goes around DC - the beltway which is I-495, also I-395 kindof goes through the city, but only on the southern side, and I-295 goes into DC from the south and continues along the east side beware of the bridge construction! Others We don't have actual highways in the city. I-395 (which is an extension of 95) goes into the southern part but stops before it really gets into the city and you hit surface roads. Baltimore-Washington Parkway also goes into the city, but it's not what I'd call a "highway". Route 50 also comes in from the east, but again, not really a highway. We have I-95, I-495 (the beltway) and I-270 outside of the city, however. Carinyossa99 forgot 295 which runs right down the middle of DC... also known as the BW Parkway ... it is a major road !!! We have several. The key highway is known as the Beltway, route 495. This highway circles around Washington DC and parts of Virginia and Maryland. Major routes off of the beltway include 95 North towards Baltimore, and 95 South towards Richmond, as well as route 66 East into the city, and route 66 West that takes you towards Warrenton, Va and beyond. Route 270, also off of the beltway takes you North towards Fredrick Maryland and beyond. We also have Route 50 East that takes you towards the Eastern Shore. DC Metro resident 44 years |
