Travel Tips
It's not confusing at all, it does get crowded at times though but it's actually one of the best subway systems in the country (although expensive). There are plenty of signs and the maps are easy to read so it's pretty straightforward. Their website is www.wmata.com - you can go there and it will have maps, and information on how to use it and stuff. Source(s): I grew up in DC and visit very frequently
Other Travel Tips
It's very straightforward, all you need is to accustom yourself with the route map and try to remember as much as possible about the color lines (orange, blue, yellow, etc).

The Metro stations are easily accessible via walking and driving (plenty of parking). You can also get there by bus depending on where you live. For instance, of you live in Fairfax, there is the Fairfax Connector that gets you to a Metro station for only $1 ($0.35 with transfer).

As for paying, you can buy a regular fare card or you can spend an extra $5 on the SmarTrip card, which is much better since it's made of hard plastic and easier to use. The SmarTrip is required if you're parking at the Metro stations.

This is the BEST web-site for the DC Metro! It even has pictures of wht the buldings are outside the metro stop so you know if you're in the right or wrong place.

Not at all. You do need to pay attention to when & where you need to get off of the subway. When I was in Dc, it was very easy getting around on the subway. People are very helpful in the subway, plus they have plenty of maps. Now driving is another thing, I would not rent a car in DC.
You are about to move to one of the best public transportation cities in the USA! You can go to virtually any neighborhood/area any time because of the metro. Also check www.wmata.com YOu can type in where you want to go and it will tell you exactly which metro/bus to get you there quickly.
