Travel Info Is there a way to visit DC when congress is in session and still get a bargain on a hotel? Travel Tips Depends on when you are coming and what you consider a bargain. Generally the congresspeople, and many of the lobbyists, live here, so congress being in session does not fill the hotels. Conventions do, big hearings with people coming from out of town do, and tourist season does. You won't get a bargain during cherry blossom season. If you come in the fall (September to Novemb er) you'll find prices much lower. There are a couple of lower priced properties in DC. The Hotel Harrington is one - really almost a backpacker hotel, with rates starting under $100 a night (this is cheap in DC). There are some less expensive hotels in the suburbs, the Hotel Americana in Crystal City, and I believe the Ramada in New Carrollton are a couple. If you are young you might consider staying at the hostelling international youth hostel, which is probably the best bet in town. Harrington and the youth hostel are downtown, so you save the time of commuting from the suburbs and can enjoy the nightlife. Other than that your bargain web sites, as described by the other poster are your best bets.
