What is traffic like on Route 81 south in virgina on thursday before memo day and monday comin north? |
Travel Info hey i wanted to know what will the traffic will be like if im driving south on route 81 from Hagerstown Maryland to route 64 this thursday at around 4pm going toward Richmond...and vice versa coming back on monday going north bound which is memo day at around 4ish any ideas, thanks guys and gals.. Travel Tips On Thursday, you may see heavy traffic in the left lane - basically everyone going 70+ MPH with one car length following distance and the occasional slow down going up hills when ignorant truckers forget to move to the right. You're likely to see the same on I-64 and then things will clear up at I-295. On Monday, you may go 80 one minute and brake to a sudden stop for 100+ miles or more. You'll be lucky to average 50 MPH. Let me suggest US 250 as an alternate to I-64 and US 11 as an alternate to I-81. You may be surprised at the improved pace on the parallel roads. Others Going down on Thursday probably won't be bad at all. Coming back Monday might be bad, but might not - depends on whether any truckers are out that day. I traveled that same route around NYE last year. It's not too bad, compared to travel on I-95. The first thing I do before going on 81 is call *511 they will let you know where the delays are on Virginia interstates. 81 is almost always crowded with trucks, however traffic on 64 is usually light till 288 outside Richmond. |
