Anyone know how to drive from Pittsburgh to Virginia Beach WITHOUT going thru DC? |
Travel Info Anyone know how to drive from Pittsburgh to Virginia Beach WITHOUT going thru DC? Travel Tips Try this: I-79 South to US 19 South (WV) to I-64 East to I-295 East (bypass Richmond) to I-64 East to Virginia Beach. Never see DC. Never see Richmond. Speed Limit is 60 on US 19 portion which is 4 lane divided highway with little or no traffic. I-81 travels in a SW direction from I-76 in Carlisle, PA. Besides, the proposed route includes no toll roads where the above poster's toll means that you have to pay the PA Turnpike. Others http://www.mapquest.com Well you can go through West Virgina and cut over into Virgina and catch 95 that way. But you don't go thru DC, you go around it, and if you get there before 2pm you will be fine, just have to watch out for Richmond which is worse than DC. These are the directions that came up on Mapquest.com I don't know if it will take you there WITHOUT going through DC, but it is one way to get there. If you don't like the directions it gives, try narrowing the results by going to mapquest.com and typing in the city names and then it will give you other options.....have a safe trip and I hope this helps ;-) 1: Start out going SOUTHWEST on GRANT ST toward OLIVER AVE. 0.2 miles Map 2: Merge onto I-376 E / US-22 E toward MONROEVILLE. 13.9 miles Map 3: Merge onto I-76 E / PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE via EXIT 15 (Portions toll). 105.5 miles Map 4: Merge onto I-70 E via EXIT 161 toward BREEZEWOOD / BALTIMORE / WASHINGTON D C (Portions toll). 2.2 miles Map 5: Take the US-30 W exit. 0.1 miles Map 6: Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto I-70 / US-30 / LINCOLN HWY. 0.3 miles Map 7: Turn LEFT onto I-70 E (Crossing into MARYLAND). 75.9 miles Map 8: Merge onto I-270 S via EXIT 53 toward WASHINGTON. 30.0 miles Map 9: Keep RIGHT to take I-270 SPUR S toward I-495 S / WASHINGTON / NORTHERN VIRGINIA. 2.0 miles Map 10: I-270 SPUR S becomes I-495 S / CAPITAL BELTWAY (Crossing into VIRGINIA). 17.2 miles Map 11: Merge onto I-95 S via EXIT 57A toward RICHMOND. 85.8 miles Map 12: Merge onto I-295 S via EXIT 84A on the LEFT toward ROCKY MT NC. 14.7 miles Map 13: Merge onto I-64 E via EXIT 28A toward NORFOLK / VA BEACH. 83.6 miles Map 14: Merge onto I-264 E via EXIT 284A toward VA BEACH. 13.0 miles Map 15: Turn LEFT onto ARCTIC AVE. 0.2 miles Map 16: Turn RIGHT onto 25TH ST. <0.1 miles Map 17: End at Virginia Beach, VA US Map Total Est. Time: 7 hours, 28 minutes Total Est. Distance: 445.32 miles Advanced OptionsShortest TimeShortest Distance Avoid Highways Avoid Tolls Avoid Seasonally-Closed Roads Reverse Route Take I-76 E to I-81 South to I-64 East Alternately, you can go south from Pittsburgh through West Virginia and catch I-64 (E) to I-81 (N) to I-64 (E). I lived in Roanoke, VA and my parents were in Richmond, while my GF lived in Pittsburgh. Now I live in D.C. So I have been all over these routes. take 76 south to I-64. I-64 goes somewhat northwest to southeast, and goes from Lexington Ky to Richmond Va, and then directly to Va Beach. and its probably faster btw. |
