Where's the best place to stay in Washington DC a family of 4? |
Travel Info We want to be close to the attractions but need more than a standard hotel room. Hotel suites are an option. Travel Tips There's a Residence Inn near Pentagon City. It's fairly new (built within 10-ish years) as far as DC hotels go and it's pretty nice. Lots of families tend to stay there. It's located in Arlington, just off of I-395 and across the bridge from DC and right on the Metro line (yellow and blue), so you'll have easy access to pretty much all of the fun stuff. It's across the street from the Pentagon City Mall (metro stop), so there is plenty of shopping and food. There are also lots of other hotels nearby, including all the hotels one Metro stop down at Crystal City (right down the road on Rt-1/Richmond Hwy.). There's another Residence Inn in Rosslyn, and it's pretty nice, but it's a teeny bit harder to get to. The hotels on the north side of Arlington are fairly nice, but are all harder to navigate around and traffic is always wierd on that side of town. Do NOT stay out in Chantilly if you plan on doing anything in DC. You will be 30-ish miles outside the city and will spend all of your time sitting in DC area gridlock. Others Try the Amerisuites in Chantilly, near Dulles. Great rooms and hot breakfast each day. The Metro is easily navigable and kids usually enjoy the ride. Don;t miss Union Station for shopping and international dining, flea market about 4 blocks north of the Capitol, US Post Office museum is a gem (near Union Station), White House Museum on 15th is a great alternative to a White House visit, buy tickets online at ticketmaster for Washington Monument to avoid lines, Botanical Garden is newly reopened and is a great stop to see flora / fauna from across the country, watch National Treasure and then visit the National Archives, Natural History Museum is great stop for kids, National Park Service has websites for all memorials with kid friendly suggestions on how to make it more 'real' to them, Hope this helps! I have to disagree with the person who suggested Chantilly. That involves at least 20 minutes of driving in rush hour traffic to metro, then a 40 to 50 minute metro trip every morning. There are several suites hotels closer in. A number in Rosslyn and in Crystal City. There's a Marriott Residence Inn (with a kitchen even!) in the Foggy bottom area, In Southwest just off the mall, in Dupont Circle, in Rosslyn and Old Town Alexandria. There's an Extended Stay American in Alexandria. If you are looking for a budget hotel downtown for a family, and are not interested in the $250 to $300 a typical suites hotel will cost, check out the Hotel Harrington. With rates starting at $89 a night (for singles, families will start at about $109) it's a basic clean place for families and groups that is within walking distance of the Mall and the White House. http://www.hotelharrington.com http://www.washingtontravelcast.com... |
