Travel Tips
I went about 12 years ago with my best friend for about 5 days. We stayed in the Marriott on Pennsylvania Ave, just down the street from the White House. I had a great time too, but then I love history and stuff. We took an official tour that went around to all the monuments - I think I was most impressed with the Lincoln Memorial. We had gotten passes to the House and the Senate from our state representatives, but they weren't in session so there wasn't much to see. We took the White House tour - I was pretty disappointed since you only get to see a little bit. We only saw a few of the Smithsonian museums - I loved the natural history museum. Probably our most moving experience was the last day. We spent almost 5 hours in the Holocaust Museum. It was a very a powerful experience.

I live here, and do a tourism podcast. I love the town and enjoy living near it.

I went to DC back in 1988 on my 6th grade class trip. We went to all of the tourist spots like the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and some other places. It was fun because I was young and around school friends and away from home (New York). I'm looking forward to going back this year.
I grew up about 5 miles north of DC and I still go back to visit very frequently. I love visiting but honestly living there isn't so great. The traffic is among the worst in the country, the people are fairly unfriendly, there are LOTS of bad neighborhoods, and the restaurants are crappy (for the most part). That said, visiting in AWESOME - all of the monuments, and the Smithsonian, and the cherry blossoms are all fabulous.
Been there many many times. Go to all the museums, Capital, White House, Monuments, Lincoln, Vietnam, Washington, WWII, and go to Arlington National Cemetery. I am from Baltimore area so it is only a little over an hour drive
