Any romantic virginia wineries/BNB's to recommend? |
Travel Info I'm planning a romantic getaway for my boyfriend's birthday next month, and I'd like to go to a winery or BNB. Can anyone recommend any? Any of the regions is fine...just want to make this a memorable trip. Thanks! Travel Tips I can suggest a couple. If you are foodies, and price is no object, then the Inn at Little Washington is a great idea. Located in Washington, Virginia, the dining room may be the greatest restaurant in the US - the chef has Michelin stars. But it is very pricey, with dinner running well over $100 without wine, and the rooms in the $300 a night range. Little Washington isn't at a winery, but there are quite a number nearby. Barboursville Vineyards, down a ways off 29 on the way to Charlottesville, also has a few rooms, very nice and very romantic, as well as an on site restaurant. Their wines are quite good, and similar to Italian wines. There is also a lot to do on site - including ruins to visit. This is probably your best bet, but I don't know the cost here. There are a number of Bed and Breakfasts in Warrenton, Washington, VA, and Leesburg, and Front Royal, all near Wineries. I'll include a link to the winery page for Virginia. As for good Wineries, some of my favorite are Loudoun Valley and Breaux in the north, Pearmund and Piedmont in the warrenton area, and Barboursville, Horton, Prince Michel and Burnley in the Central area. If you want to go even further, Veritas, Cardinal are very good too in the mountains. The Red Fox Inn in Middleburg is very nice, close to wineries. My fiance and I stayed at the Silver Thatch Inn in Charlottesville, VA 2 years ago. We stayed in a cute cottage off the main house that had four rooms in it. The beds were comfy and the breakfasts were delicious. During the day we visited Monticello and the other landmarks. One evening we saw a production of Midsummer Night's Dream on the ruins at Barboursville Vineyard. It was very romantic... there was wine available and some food to eat before hand on a blanket. On the way home we drove up skyline drive. All in all it was a fun and romantic getaway. http://www.silverthatch.com/rooms.html... |
