Washington DC, for me?

Travel Info
Anyone know any good places for a 17 year old to go to in Washington, DC????

Travel Tips
FDR memorial is really cool.

Like Bonsais? The National Arboretum is many gorgeous acres in the city and has a museum containing mini trees that are hundreds of years old.

That national zoo is a lot of fun, and Amazonia there is amazing for in depth learning. As is the think tank - check out the orang utans at work.

Like architecture? Frank Lloyd Wright's Pope-Leighey house is preserved very close to Mount Vernon, another wonderful destination.

You can ride a paddle boat near the Jefferson Memorial, in the tidal basin.

The sculpture garden at the National Gallery of Art on Constitution is a whimsical amazement. The Hirshorn also has a very moving sculpture garden and challenging modern art museum.

Every day at 6pm, the Kennedy Center has a free performance on their Millenium Stage. ALso, they sell same day tickets at discounts, as well as obstructed view tickets at discount. They have 4 or 5 performance halls at the Kennedy Center.

Arena Stage has magnificent plays.

Like the Civil War? Ft. Ward Park in Alexandria has a great self-guiding tour and wonderful picnic grounds.

Like to hike? Go to the Billy Goat trail at Great Falls Park in Great Falls, Md. AWESOME trails along the potomac.

I always head for the Smithsonian Museum. It's the best!
The International Spy Museum! You'll love it. If I were 17, that's where I would want to go, it's the coolest museum in DC. It's right off the Gallery Place/Chinatown metro stop, between 9th and 8th Streets at 800 F Street, NW. However, go get your tickets early, or buy them online ahead of time (you can get them thru ticketmaster), cause they sell out hours in advance sometime - especially in the summertime. Usually when I take people there, we can go buy our tickets for a couple hours later, then go have lunch in chinatown and come back...but there have been times when it was totally sold out for the day, so I'd suggest getting tix early in the day or beforehand. If you haven't been there, you must go!!

Also, the air and space museum exhibits might be fun - lots of interactive displays there. Go down to the Mall, and look around, that is where all the Smithsonian museums are. (but I still think the spy museum is way more exciting!)
http://www.spymuseum.org/ - check out their website

I have been to the exhibit many times.
