I will have family visiting me in DC from abroad. Where should I bring them for a nice 1 or 2 day getaway? |
Travel Info They are young and have two sons (16 and 13 years old). Not sure they would enjoy amusement parks. Thanks! Travel Tips I'd take them out to the Shenandoah National Park area. There's a lot to do out there - check out the activities in the National Park, do some sightseeing on skyline drive, and a hike or two to start. You can go to Luray and see one of the caverns; there are a number of them. If the boys would put up with it (or could hang out by themselves at the campsite) the parents could visit a few of the wineries located out there. If you are doing a midweek getaway and you want, you could hit one of the beaches, in Maryland, Delaware, or even Virginia Beach. While they are impossible to visit on a weekend, they should be very easy to handle on a Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/Thursday. Virginia Beach also has Williamsburg nearby, and the Seashore State park down there has very nice, and affordable cabins. And if you are wrong about the amusement parks, you can go to Busch Gardens. Since Jamestown celebrated it's 400th anniversary this year, then it and Williamsburg are very polished and put together. If they are interested in American History, or want to visit a different city, you might spend 2 days in Philadelphia - it's a pretty cool city, different from DC and only 3 hours away. Others Are you wanting to leave the area or looking for things to do in DC?
