Flying into BWI ( Baltimore MD) best way to downtown DC? |
Travel Info Our family ( 2 adults, 2 teens) is flying into BWI on a Thurs 11:30 pm. Wondering what the best way & most economic to get to Holiday Inn on C Street just off the National Mall. Travel Tips Unfortunately, you're flying in after the last bus from BWI to DC has left, and metro doesn't go all the way to BWI. Unless you can call a friend for a ride, the cheapest way to get from BWI to DC that late at night is probably a shared ride service such as SuperShuttle: http://www.supershuttle.com/ It'll probably be about $70 for a family of four. It's quite possible that a private taxi will only be a little more, and it'll be more convenient because you'll have it all to yourself, and won't have to make any other drop-offs. Once you add in the round-trip, of course, it could be cheaper to just rent a car, depending on how many days you'll be here. Here you'll find details on all ground transportation options: http://www.bwiairport.com/ground_transpo... Others The Metro Rail is a affordable reliable way to get into D.C. I've used it when I've gone to conferences in D.C. Check out this site: http://www.wmata.com/riding/visitors/air... Have a great trip!! At that time of night, if you don't know anyone in the area who can drive you, you're best to drive a car and then return it to National Airport the following day (because National is at a metro stop). A car rental is definitely cheaper than a taxi. http://maps.google.com I suggest canceling the Thursday night part of the reservation. Sleep at BWI for 4 hours and take the AMTRAK Shuttle Bus to the BWI Train Station where the first MARC Train to DC arrives a few minutes after 5 AM. Get off at Union Station and you can walk to the Holiday Inn on C St. There are a couple of places to eat breakfast on the way to the hotel. Spend the morning and afternoon exploring DC and check in at the Holiday Inn on Friday after 3 PM - you save one night's hotel stay on your credit card. The one-way train ticket from BWI Airport to Union Station will cost $6 each for a total of $24. Don't forget your sleeping bags and you don't have to pay $100 for a shuttle ride or a rental car. Simply tell the BWI Security that you thought that the trains operated 24x7 and you can't afford shuttle service and rental cars. You can ride the train from BWI airport to Washington's Union Station. The C Street Holiday Inn is then a couple of Metro (subway) stops away, or a short, fairly cheap cab ride. See the source for more info. If you really want to do this inexpensively, however, there is an express bus from BWI to the Greenbelt Metro statio. That's a longer ride, but still do-able. There is more information on this choice in the second Source listed, and you can download a timetable from the third Source. Finally, for general infomation about your local transportation options, see the 4th listed Source, Visit DC (scroll down). Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip. Good luck!! http://www.bwiairport.com/ground_transpo... http://www.bwiairport.com/ground_transpo... www.wmata.com/timetables/md/b3... http://www.visitingdc.com/airport/bwi-bu... |
