What is Washington like? |
Travel Info I'm going to go to Washington DC.And i want to know what to expec. Travel Tips First of all, it is a beautiful city, with a whole lot to do. I have lived here, well, just outside DC in Northern Virginia almost all my Life. Traffic is a nightmare if you have to commute very far, but then again, there is the Metro that extends well into the suburbs. Depending on where you are coming from, you will find that DC is of a culture almost alone in itself. Remember, there are Embassies from all over the World here, and people from almost every country live here. Their is virtaully no discrimination because of the large mix of all different cultures and peoples. Also, because of this, when it snows, and the roads are covered, many of the foreigners have never dealt with this, so it's a totally nightmare commuting if it snows. It is a great place to live, but housing is expensive. Everything else, food, gas, etc., is about the same if not less than many other parts of the country. And it's only 2-3 from the Atlantic Ocean beaches, or 1-2 hours to the Shenandoah Mountains, so it is a good place, just don't wander the streets of DC alone at night. Others It is hot, humid and sticky but other than that it is a beautiful place. Lots of huge statues and monuments dedicated to many people and events. Lots of gass and sidewalks and few vendors selling eats. Summertime there are scads of visitors. But you are glad to get back into air conditioning. Washington DC is like most cities (technically it is a district). It's large yet compact. From my experiences visiting DC a few times in recent years, it's usually bustling with tourists, open parking is all most non-existent unless you work or live in DC. It tends to be crowded with a lot going on. Obviously with it being the nation's capitol, there's a lot to see and do, numerous museums that you can easily spend all day in, you can visit the statues of the presidents, etc. As someone like you whose intent on visiting DC is for leisurely reasons, I'd highly recommend taking the DC metro subway system. A all-day ticket costs about 5-8 bucks, and it saves you the hassle of getting lost in the district, and wind up being in a part of town that you would prefer not to be in. At any rate, have fun in DC. well there is allot of buildings the white house, museums and other cool stuff.I live near by Washington, DC is an enjoyable adventurous place. DC is a bustling city with lots of monuments and cultural events. Being a native Washingtonian, I may be a little biased, but I love this city and never have a problem finding something to keep me occupied. Awesome, you can enjoy a lot of fun. But don't forget the men who died and gave these rights and freedom to you and me. Go and visit Mr. Abraham Lincoln's Memorial and the washington monument first. Hope you enjoy this vacation. crime is high here but not too worry we have a new police policy in full effect...lots of tourists sites, great food, good people..come on down..bring some summer gear cause its HOT ! |
