Travel Info Interests: nature, history and horses Travel Tips The National Mall is a must and should take one day, if done right. Plan to walk. Start at one end and go in a circle, making sure you see the Capital as well. There are many, many museums on the Mall, but the one that you will probably enjoy the most is the Smithsonian American History Museum. You should take a ride on the barge that goes through the C&O Canal in Georgetown. People dressed in historical costume explain the history of the canal and two adorable mules pull the barge. This a must see for horse lovers! The Ford Theatre and the museum nearby (in downtown DC), where Lincoln died are both interesting because little has changed since the time of the assassination. Mount Vernon, Washington's home, is another great place where history and nature come together. There are historical reenactors there and many nice restaurants. Theodore Roosevelt Island has the memorial to Teddy and is a beautiful place to observe nature in the middle of busy DC. You can walk onto the island from a bridge in Rosslyn, VA- just across the Potomac from Georgetown. Others Here is an great site for attractions in Washington DC. Have fun! Capitol Hill They have a musuem of natural minerals or stones. They had the hope diamond (the diamond from titantic) on display when I went there. You can go to the washington monument, lincoln memorial, the zoo, the space musuem. I LOVED the spy musuem. It had all the little gadgets on how countries spy on one another.
