"Approximately how long does it take to get from Frederick, MD to Shady Grove (MD) Metro Statation? |
Travel Info I know 270 can be a real pain in the @$$ to drive in the morning. But can anyone give me the approximate time it will take if I leave around 5:30am? Is traffic really bad at that time? Mapquest says approx 34 mins, but I know that doesn't take into consideration ALL the traffic. Help, please?! Travel Tips Forget Mapquest. Yes, the traffic can be god-AWFUL, especially at 5:30 in the AM. It's about 30 miles from the intersection of US 15 (I-270) and Patrick St (US 40) in Frederick to the metro parking lot at Shady Grove. On a Saturday or Sunday, you can do it in 1/2 hr. But weekdays? Ugh! Allow at least an hour, which would assume an average speed of roughly 30 mph. You can improve on this by leaving at 4:45 AM for what should be about a 40-45 minute trip at that hour -assuming no wrecks along the way (yours or someone else). Don't forget to add train travel time from Shady to wherever you're going. Oh yes, and cost. $4 all day parking at Shady Grove. Subway fares will be about $6-$8 a day. See this site for info: http://www.wmata.com/default.cfm... Now, what about the MARC system as an alternative? You can pick up the train in downtown Frederick at 100 South Street (3 out in the AM, 3 back in the PM) or else make the run to Point of Rocks, Dickerson or Barnesville to catch it. Transfer to Metro trains at varios points along the way or go all the way in to Union Station (and while you're there, stop by the Station Grill and say "Hi" to owner Bruce Gardner and tell him his old "loud mouth soup" friend Scott sends greetings.) See this site for MARC info. http://www.mtamaryland.com/services/marc... And this one for info about the Station Grill: http://www.thestationgrill.com/... Good luck. You'll need it. PS: Suggestion -do a test drive to Shady Grove station if the metro is your choice so you see how it all works. Others Traffic at 5:30am shouldn't be bad at all. Doesn't start to build up until 6:30 - 7. And the 34 minutes is a pretty close estimate. Traffic aint that bad at 5:30? Do you actually live near DC? anything having to do with the beltway sucks, even at 3am on a Thursday it sucks. The Metro will take just a long but far less hassle, keep in mind it will have to stop every 3-5 minutes. Look it up on the Metro web site, they have an approx time listing matrix to show times from point to point. |
