Getting Married in DC?

Im german and my fiance is American stationed in the army over here. right now he is in afghanistan and we plan on getting married in his 2 weeks leave while visiting his family in DC. Do you know, if i need any other papers besides my international birth-certificate and my passport if we do the court house wedding?

" The law requires a premarital blood test for syphilis (VDRL) and negative results placed (certified) on a District of Columbia Health Department form, DHS 366, for the license to be issued. The forms for both parties must be submitted at the time of application. This premarital blood test result is only valid for 30 days. In the District of Columbia a physician, clinic, hospital, or military medical facility will often have the forms available to certify the test results.

Blood test results from independent laboratories or from other jurisdictions that do not have the DHS form available, will need to be submitted to the D.C. Serology Laboratory, in the John Daly Building (Municipal Center), at 301 C Street N.W., Room 6154, Washington, D.C. 20001 (202-727-8956). The Serology Laboratory charges $10 and accepts payment only in the form of check or money order.."

Maryland does not require a blood test, if timing does not work for you have this done prior to the wedding, I would suggest going out to boarding MD county for the license. That should be sufficient. Be sure that you apply for the marriage license early on enough that you can comply with any waiting period requirements they have in the District of Columbia before your ceremony.

Get married at the Montgomery County, Maryland courthouse (or any Maryland county courthouse) if you are in Maryland ant not actually in DC. My husband and I were married there and it was easy. The fact that you aren't required to have a blood test is a great thing too.
